This is particularly interesting for companies which subject their parts to surface treatments or welding operations which modify the characteristics of the parts and therefore their reliability.
Nuclear
In the nuclear field, the demand is high for to: monitoring the facilities, extending the lifespan of power plants, anticipating the development of damage by corrosion or creep, checking the tightness of packaging intended for the storage of radioactive waste.
One of the application examples of the ultrasonic method consists in the control of the assemblies (tightening tension of the screws) of the trunnions, of the primary and secondary lids of the packaging intended for the transport of radioactive waste.
Automotive
In the automotive sector, the demand is particularly focused on ultrasonic stress analysis on engine heads, aluminum bumpers, friction welded parts (FSW), screw tightening control.
Railway Industry
In the railway sector, companies deal often with preventive maintenance on all type of rail. Multiples problems can be encountered like high strain in rail due to manufacturing process, installation, trafic and/or high temperature variation. Further more, internal structural defects in rails can be a subject for controlling by ultrasound before to use them in the field.
Aeronautics
The aeronautics sector is also very interested in measuring residual stresses, because of the desire of manufacturers to reduce the weight of the parts used, which leads to the use of materials such as titanium alloys and optimization of the thickness of the parts which must however retain their mechanical properties.

The petroleum sector, the demand is important for the evaluation of residual stresses induced by welding, defect detection using guided waves.
Wind and Hydraulic turbines
In the wind and hydraulic turbines, the ultrasonic method is often used to control the tightening tensions in the studs.
One application example is the ultrasonically controlled tightening of coupling studs: impeller / turbine shaft, turbine shaft / intermediate shaft and intermediate shaft / alternator shaft.
